FIRE SEASON
Climate change anxiety. Motherhood. Desire. Fire.
Against the backdrop of record-breaking fire season in California, Capital W asks:
How do you build a life amidst climate crisis?
Welcome to FIRE SEASON.
An in-person, COVID-safe exploration of climate change and our connection to nature. Guided by the stories and prose poetry of writer/performer Monica Miklas. FIRE SEASON was originally staged at Paramount Ranch, itself a burn site from the 2018 Woolsey Fire.
Nine of the ten largest wildfires in California's recorded history have occurred since the year 2000.
Designed with COVID-19 safety in mind, FIRE SEASON invites audience members to listen to Miklas's live performance of her words through headphones, broadcast locally over FM transmitter. As they interact with the sonic experience, audience members can explore, hike, or simply rest in the grandeur of the Santa Monica Mountains. What will you find when you take the time to look around?
A portion of tickets sales from FIRE SEASON are donated to organizations fighting the effects of climate change.
"Decidedly timely, reflective of an era when the loss of life can feel overwhelming to the point of paralyzing... a course of optimism runs through Fire Season."
